“Our Land Abounds” is an interactive installation of printed textiles and found objects. The work in two parts explores the identity which can be revealed through our environment and sense of place.
The installation explores our common experience of the native Australian Bushland. By modifying the traditional motif of a gum leaf, the project prompts viewers to look more closely at their own interpretation of and relationship to the bush.
The QR codes reflect the embedded meaning within the imagery. The codes and hidden maps allow us to explore the motif in a deeper way, similar to the way we need to explore the bush to discover its individuality and complexity.
The covered chair and pillow act as a metaphor for the functionality and relevance of the environment. They challenge us to bring the bush back into an integrated and useful place in our lives.
Embroidered leaves on the pillows reinforce the individual yet communal identity which our native landscape has to offer.
